EY / HQ Wavespace
Innovation rarely emerges from formal meeting rooms alone. Creativity depends on the ability of people to exchange ideas, build trust, experiment, and engage with one another in environments that stimulate curiosity and participation. The challenge addressed by this project was therefore not simply architectural, but behavioural: how can space support collective thinking and generate the conditions for innovation to occur?
Developed for EY’s Wavespace platform, the project explored the relationship between spatial experience, creativity, and collaboration. Drawing on neuroscience and environmental psychology, Tuning Arch investigated how environmental conditions influence attention, engagement, learning, and emotional involvement during workshops, presentations, and collaborative activities.
Rather than functioning as a neutral container, the environment was conceived as an active participant in the innovation process. Spatial sequences, lighting conditions, movement patterns, and visual relationships were carefully orchestrated to create different emotional and cognitive atmospheres, each supporting specific forms of interaction. The design recognised that brainstorming, storytelling, learning, and decision-making require distinct behavioural conditions and therefore different spatial responses.
The project transformed the workplace into a platform for collective intelligence, where architecture contributes directly to the generation of ideas and the quality of human interaction. By translating insights from neuroscience and environmental psychology into spatial strategies, the intervention demonstrates how design can support organisational innovation through the careful shaping of experience.
