SKY / Entry Courtyard

The experience of arriving at a workplace begins long before entering a building. Paths, thresholds, open spaces, and moments of transition all contribute to shaping first impressions and influencing how people perceive an organisation. This project explored how the entrance courtyard of a major media campus could become an active component of corporate identity rather than a simple access space.

The proposal investigated the role of arrival sequences in shaping orientation, social interaction, and emotional engagement. Drawing on neuroscience and environmental psychology, Tuning Arch examined how environmental features influence attention, memory, and the perception of place, transforming the entrance experience into a meaningful part of everyday working life.

Rather than functioning exclusively as a circulation area, the courtyard was conceived as a collective environment capable of supporting informal encounters, outdoor activities, and moments of pause throughout the day. Particular attention was devoted to visibility, spatial hierarchy, movement patterns, and the relationship between architecture and landscape. The project sought to strengthen the connection between people and place while reinforcing the values and culture of the organisation through spatial experience.

The resulting concept transformed a transitional environment into a recognisable social space capable of contributing to belonging, orientation, and identity. The project illustrates how even seemingly ordinary spaces can become powerful tools for communication and engagement when designed through the lens of neuroscience and environmental psychology.
